My first virgin only 71 more to go. My new 1955 FAZ

    G'day guys,

Just thought I would show you my new girl. Can't wait to pop her cherry. Thanks again Brian it was worth the wait. Any Aussies wanting to import a rifle, Brian Dickicon is your man. With the dollar so good at the moment there is some great deals to be had. Especially now Brian and I have nutted out all the hurdles you need to jump to get a rifle smoothly into OZ.
    Sorry about the pic.

In years past, I've had at least 6 of these Mk.II's still in the wrap with tags intact. Beautiful fit & finish to be sure ! Let us know how she shoots, groups etc.

Brian offered me a wrapped one. Which I denied as it would have had to been unwrapped for customs on arrival here. Better to leave the wrapped one for a collector. I just have to dig the final grease out of all the nooks and crannies. But I now know how the soldiers felt when they were issued with a new rifle.

Yours is as good as new. It had been unwrapped by a previous owner and hastily wiped down but never fired since import to the USAicon. I think the bore is still full of grease too. Break it in properly and I challenge you to wear it out, lol!

i just got a No.4 Mk1/2 whic was listed as FTR in 1955. originally a 1944 No.4 mk1, it had been rebarrelled with a F55 barrel and it had also been re serialed into the Fazackerley No.4 mk 2 serial range. This was A 12XX. Was this a common practice? I've never seen this before.

BSA commercial FTR's of the 50's serially numbered their rifles again, starting from A1. Don't ask why 'cos I don't know and it certainly wouldn't have happened with UKicon Military FTR's as we would renumber using a set ZZ prefix or SA61Axxxxx type number So yours is an unknown manufactured No4 upgraded to Mk1/2 by BSA in 1955 and re-numbered to boot

BSA were a private company and this was an easy way to make money. Buy zillions of rifles cheap from the MoD, rebuild them and sell them on to nations wanting to re-equip with No4's. The Sierra Leone and Ghana Armies were BIG buyers of these rifles

Spike DD can elaborate more on these BSA commercial dealings but there are exceptions to the renumbering. For example, by nation returning rifles for FTR simply wants the same rifles back, FTR'd

I've got a 1/3 like that, I thought it looked dodgy, but I've seen more, and yours sounds the same, so...
