AR-15/M16 magazines with "cartridge counter holes" in the side

Anyone ever see any AR-15 (early CAL 223 floor plate marked) with holes in the side to view the remaining cartridges in the magazine ? Could be Air Force and the number of holes could be four to six.

Saw one at an AFB open house long, long ago. It was also painted yellow. I don't believe it left the factory with the holes or the paint.
