Bugs are protein! Most of the world knows that and eats them. Food is where you find it.

My sister who cooks them up doesn't like the bugs in the berries, and I don't like 'em IN my skin (during picking)! Otherwise, I don't mind a little extra crunch. (Ants are good and fire-y, usually.)

Oh, BTW, cooked up about 1 1/2 lbs of beans yesterday and ate just about all of them myself! Gave away a kilo in addition. Kinda slow to start this year.

I hope you have plenty of TP, or corncobs, or whatever you use where you are !!!! I need to slack off the sweet corn, but I can buy more than I can eat and try to consume it all anyway.

I need to stake my tomatoes tomorrow. One turned almost red and I went to pick it before the birds got to it....it had sat on the ground and the bottom was rotten......

This is my first year of having any luck with a garden...... I have tried before, but to be honest it is really not cost effective. I can buy stuff cheaper than trying to grow it myself. However, I LOVE tomatoes and I can NEVER buy good ones. Only ones that are OK to eat. I figure if I can grow my own, I will be good to go for a few weeks.

Don't have enough room for everything, just what I like to have tonight. Tomatoes, Peppers, Onions, etc.

    Enjoy yours !!!

    Thanks Jim,

    Emri

I didn't know Nordstrom sold beans. Must be a new department.

Had to forego tomatoes for morale reasons. Just too many dramas! If they are doing well, the squirrels destroy them. Otherwise, it's one thing or another. Too frustrating! But I agree- tomatoes that have been refrigerated just aren't as good, even those you do yourself. Fresh picked and never below room temperature- outstanding!

I NEVER let a good tomato get chilled. Fresh off the plant on a hot day - yum!

My gardening attempts were a disaster this year. I was late planting due to work and cold weather and then it got very hot and dry so things did'nt fare well, even with irragation. Water from below ain't as good as water from above, mineral wise. The return on potatoes was less than I planted. Then there's the rabbits and deer taking their toll. My garden is only 50yds behind the house but even so I had to guard the beans with a shotgun just to get enough for one cooking. But, the deer and rabbits should be fat come huntin season and they're awful good fried and steamed. I've given up on tomatoes, some sort of fungus there's no cure for has taken up residence in the soil and when the 'maters start putting on fruit the bushes die. Drat it. The problem with store bought maters it they're harvested green and then gassed so they'll ripen, then they may be stored in a refer unit for up to a month before they reach the stores. Squirrels don't bother the garden much, they seem to prefer chewing on the welding leads and torch hoses on my service truck, and the wiring under the hood.

Beans still slow. Only about 1 1/2 lbs per day.

Radishes are a mystery. Lots of leaves, deep roots, but no "swole-up" part. (A few did develop properly- just enough to be annoying.)

After 2 months we finally got some decent rain here last week, around 3 inches. What a difference it made. Sweet corn coming along nicely, should be ready later in the week. Gathered some carrots and okra today. With all the stereotyping about rabbits liking carrots so well you'd think they'd have eaten me out of house and home but they never bothered them, seemed to like beans and peas better.
