That's not really a problem here Jim ...

Within an hour or so of posting (linking to pics off-site), they are mirrored and reside on our own server here for posterity, so even if a user moves all his pics to another album, or the hosting site deletes them after the 30 day free trial a lot of people take advantage of, they still appear properly in threads, just as the original poster submitted them.

Why are my images from Photobucket, ImageShack etc. copied to milsurps.com?

    Regards,
    Doug

It's pretty simple once you do it a few times.

If I can help, I'd be happy to. If you sent me your contact information, perhaps I could telephone you at a convenient time when you are sitting in front of your computer and logged into the site, so I can talk you through a typical practice post on how to handle pics.

There are also Internet programs such as LogMeIn FREE (click here), which we can use so we can step you through the process on how to do it, while you watch your own computer screen.

    Regards,
    Doug

    Harlan,
Thanks for trying. When I go to the link in my post I get the picture. I right click it and do not get a choice to "Open Image". And under properties is a URL that is not the same as you posted.
I do not want to store all my pictures on your server. I will take the wtmr route for a few more years.

I don't do directions well, my wife says I have selective vision and hearing. I am very lazy and when something is not super easy and requires thinking I don't do well. I had a I-phone for 3 months before a guy on a plane chuckled at me when I pulled mag glass out to read a email and look at a pic--it was like wow, all you had to do was touch screen with two fingers spread them and it blew it up (the pic). I found perfect solution here, I just email pics to Jim4m1's and he posts them!!! Works great nothing to figure out or remember. I am not downgrading this site I think its great, I just don't tech well. I use all apple stuff, don't have to know much that way. If you are like me and don't tech well do the apple stuff, people will think you are smart.

    Great idea wtmr!
I wish you would have told me sooner and I wouldn't have spent so much time making the tutorials that don't work.

I'll get in touch with Doug and see if I can delete the 'How To' links and just insert links to Jim's home email!

    Hi Bubba,

I figured out the trouble. The link you used from Picture Trail is a link to all of your photos, so using that link can't display just one single photo here.

I couldn't see how to get a direct link by viewing your account photos, so I registered with picture trail and uploaded a photo to see how it works. (It's very similar to photobucket)

After you upload a photo to Picture Trail there's a box under it with several fields under it.
Click in the field that says 'Direct Image Link' and then copy it.

Come back to milsurps and click on the little button at the top of the dialogue box that looks like a little tree (insert image) -

Then paste the URL you copied into the box that pops up -

Then 'preview post' and you should see your image.

I hope this helps. After you do it a couple of times it seems easy.
As with everything to do with computers you just need to find where to 'click'

We old dogs can learn this stuff if we're motivated. I was late getting into computers. I never had an interest, but I was the product specialist for a large copier company and when all the equipment became digital and connected to networks I had to learn.

I was in one office troubleshooting a network issue and the office manager said, "You must be about my age. How do you know so much about computers?"
I just responded, "Because I need to eat"
