Announcement What is the 'Vintage Military Gear' Forum?

We’ve decided to create a new forum dedicated entirely to vintage combat gear. We know that there are many members here who also collect and study vintage combat gear and uniforms, and several are experts on this subject. Since a lot gear isn’t specific to any one type of firearm, we felt creating a forum that encompasses all types of gear might be informative and interesting.

This new forum will be a place for displaying and discussing collectible combat gear such as helmets, hats, uniforms, boots, patches, canteens, web gear, grenades, etc.

We hope that experienced collectors will share their interesting artifacts as well as help newer collectors ID items they may have found and provide information.

We have members from all over the world who have access to gear that is not readily available to members in other parts of the world and we hope this will become a place where we can share our collections with others.

We’d like to have a broad scope of about anything related to Military combat service but try to keep most items from 20th century conflicts or just before in order to keep it from becoming too broad. We hope this will be an interesting addition to milsups.com and our members will enjoy it.

    Thank you,
    cafdfw (Harlan)

    Great idea!

The only thing I own that I would consider even close to vintage gear would be my dads (now mine) Arctic parka circa 1956-58 that he used when he flew a bus over said land mass(i think land or ice) with his nuclear buddy. Would that be appropriate or not with the theme of milsurps? I'll bet there was a milsurp firearm on board during the trip.
For all you members, $30(price subject to inflation) makes you a contributing member. I think this great site is worth it.

Sure it would Dave! Gear with family history and/or known providence of the vet who used it is especially interesting.

I want this forum to be a place where we can share photos from our collections, or simply ask questions about any type of military gear from the 20th century. It doesn't need to be directly associated with firearms. It can be from cartridge belts to mess kits to compasses. Anything that might be of interest or a member has a question about.

You don't even need to possess a particular piece of gear in your collection to participate or start a thread. If a member has a question about military gear of any type there's usually a member here who knows about it from research or even has personal experience, and there might be members who have examples in their collections.

I hoped this would be a place where we could share, educate, learn, dispel myths, and just have fun through discussion and photographs.

    ~ Harlan

After searching all over our site for the Law Enforcement Forum I think I found the thread you implied jmoore
I didn't find it until after I posted above, and it's about compasses of all things.
(I pulled compasses out of my hat just to describe any variety of gear and this thread is sensational)

Just got my MkIII Compass back from Trademark London

This is a very interesting thread and exactly the kind of thing I was hoping we could have here.

It's amazing to me when I discover the military related artifacts our members have in their collections and it's incredible the knowledge they have about them. There's possibly more advanced accumulated collections and accurate studious knowledge of vintage military gear of the members this site (in addition to the firearms owned) than most anyplace in the world today.
