    M1A1 case

Attachment 24235Attachment 24236Attachment 24237Had this for many years, don't think a carbine was ever put inside this case. Have never seen anything dated before 1943. I understand there are now excellent repros too ?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. VERY nice M1A1icon scabbard RCS! They're hard to find in that mint condition and even 'beater' M1A1 cases these days often sell for stupid prices. Jim has a couple of mint examples too I've see, but I haven't seen many others like ours.

Band of Brothers and SPR made new 'collectors' out of many people who never cared about milsurp guns or gear before and anything remotely assoc with airborne became gold. Not enough supply for the demand. You're correct that there are MANY repros these days because of it. Real M1A1 carbines also went though the roof and I think the new interest from the movies added to it as well.

I watched a recent auction where a beat up, dented, rusty D-bale M1 helmet shell with no finish (Shell only) and only rust stained remnants of the original chin straps with the extra little one inch strap and snap to attach the paratroop liner sold for over $750.
I just had to think to myself how insane is was that rotted little extra snap was worth about $700 to someone.

It's also been strange to me that vintage mint WWI gear often sells for less than similar condition or worse WWII gear. Collecting WWI gear may be the thing to do as far as collecting for fun, and I believe someday it will appreciate. You can usually find authentic unit marked M1917 helmets for about $150 or less, and a real WWII marked helmet can easily go into four figures (If you can find one that is not a fake!)

Maybe Steven Spielberg will make a blockbuster movie about WWI someday and we'll all have valuable collections!

    Lloyd,

    I haven't seen a Shane padded M1A1icon case.

I have, and have seen zipper cases marked.
