WWI 21st Engineer Div M1917 Helmet and tunic

This gear was used by Private Edward J. Tilghman in WWI.

The pigment of the red paint on the helmet had faded, as red seems to do with age. The tunic is still in excellent condition with no mothing and all the insignia is original to it.

The only information I've found is the below. I don't know for certain if it's the same person, but the names match as does the date. I found some other matches for the name and time period on the internet but it wouldn't give details such as if it has any divisions or service without paying, so this is all I have found so far.

Impressive group, even more impressive in that the tunic appears to be un-mothed...

    Thank you!

The tunic really is impressive and looks like it's brand new without a blemish of any kind. It smells like cedar so I think it must have spent many years in a cedar chest.

I did some more research and found what the inverted 'V' means on the sleeves.

The left sleeve is for years in overseas duty and the right sleeve is called a 'wound stripe'
This may help corroborate the casualty report I found for the name written inside the tunic.
