Unknown old bayonet, I need help
This bayonet has a mark on the sheath that I cant make out but it looks like a tiny snake. It also has a mark and serial number on the handle G 61374 and there is a mark to the left of the G that I cant make out. It looks very old with a wood covered handle with two hand hamered pins holding the two wood pieces together. Good Carcano bayonet these days is worth just about as much as the rifle.
This I do not understand.
The rifles are just FINE if you feed them decent ammo.

They hit the nail on the head, it is a Carcano bayonet, possibly the former folding type. The original variant could be fixed to the rifle and then folded like a pocket knife until it needed to be used. For one reason or another, they decided this wasn't working out so they had them modified to be fixed in the open position only. As pointed out, these are somewhat uncommon and usually command a premium. Good find!
