1917 Peddle Scheme Lee Enfield.
Hello all. Just picked up a Standard Small Arms peddle scheme LE today, dated 1917. Very nice rifle. Wondered if anyone was familiar with this marking. On the bolt track next to the SSA is the marking AD. Also, on the bottom of the buttstock is a six pointed star with the letter E beneath it. Any thoughts? Am about to take it down to clean it, can't wait to see the myriad of markings on it. Will have some pics soon. Thanks!

Nice find mate. My all matching 1918 SSA has AD in the same spot. Not sure what it means though.
At some stage someone has given her a light sand so its hard to make out any markings on the timber. All I can read is a Lithgow
stamp and mk III HV on the butt which I'm guessing got put on there one of the times it got ftr'd in 1943 & 1951.
My one looks like she rolled out of the factory yesterday so I've never been game to disturb the stock and have a look what's underneath.

Advisory Panel
The marking described, located on the bottom of the pistol grip swell indicates rework/repair/modification at Enfield. Different letters indicate different firms doing the work. Skennerton's Broad Arrow or Enfield book lists them.

Taking her to the range today, can't wait to see how well she shoots. I think I got pretty lucky with this one. No import marks, 1917 dated barrel..as original as they come I suppose. Now to find an NRF rifle.................

An interesting development on the newly acquired peddled scheme LE...and one that I hope turns out to be what I think it is, though of course, it probably AIN'T. But anyway...was looking it over again today and found a mark on the bolt handle that looks for all the world like a pair of Gurkha crossed Kukri knives, just as you would see on their regimental badges. Now, before you guys start rolling your eyes, I will tell you that I have looked at it with a magnifying loop OVER and OVER again, and kept telling myself "oh, it's just those darned crossed flags." But it sure as hell doesn't look like those darned crossed flags at all. It looks just like those darned crossed Kukri knives. I will get pics of everything up as soon as whatever Gremlin in my computer decides to let me post them. In the meantime, has anyone seen this before?
