    NZ Savage.

One of my No4's that is a NZicon stamped rifle. What is the history of these rifles. Were they issued to the Kiwi's during the war or after? Was it in one batch and did they use them abroad?

    Thanks

Demo, do any of your NZicon-marked No.4s have import marks or civilian proof markings (i.e the markings done when the rifle is is sold out of service)?

Andrew, trying to find any markings on my LB which I suspect is NZicon, any hints to where to look for the marks. There is none on the wrist.

You would have to ask a NZer but I believe that NZicon was in credit with Britainicon after the war due to all the food they sent over and accepted some new No.4's as part payment.

    Ok thanks Rowdy.

Myles if you zoom in to the lower left side of the butt socket, you'll see the NZicon stamp and number. The number is also on top of the bolt handle and on the underside of the magazine. My mates in Brisbane have got examples of these and this is consistent with all of them.

My latest info is that NZ held the strategic/reserve arms for britain post Dunkirk. They were surplesed after the end ww2.

From what I have read, there are some variations in form of marking (stamping versus electropencil) on the No.4 receivers as it depended on what RNZEME workshop was assigned the work. Mine is electropenciled with "NZicon" and the NZ serial number on top of the receiver, and the serial number is stamped on the left side of the buttsocket, top of the bolt handle and bottom of the magazine. The person I bought the rifle from was intiially under the impression that the rifle have been vandalized by some iditiot using an electropencil. I put him straight before buying the rifle.

Andrew, nothing on the buttsocket, it all matches, doesn't look like it ever saw service. I was told that it was purchased from NZicon suplus in the 80's wrapped when a quiet a few were sold off. I have only found one mention of this sale and a serial number less than a 100 from mine. If this is true could this be the reason it was not stamped and should I look elsewhere to try and find another countries stampings.

Bearclaw, although I will recognize the irony in my statement (I do have a VERY good excuse for sorting out photos at the moment!), we need photos of any unsual markings that may indiacte prior ownership
