    Sticky proposal

So my friend's Garandicon experinced a trajedy. He was shooting "K-54" (Kynoch Britishicon/Korean) head stamped M2 ball. He had a head space case separation. It blew his stock in two. While looking into it online I found that "K-53" is known to do this due to it being loaded hot and having weak/brittle case bases. "K-53 was originally loadedin belts for the M1919 machine gun? As we all know, over time, things get removed from the belts, putinto ammo cans and sold at gun shows. Those ckickens are cominghome to roost so to speak. I am wondering if anyone can point me toward a list of known M2 ammo/ Head Stamps that is generally worht avoiding for the Garand?

So did he shoot the KA/PS head stamped Korean ammo or the K-54 head stamped ammo? K-54/K-53, is Britishicon ammo AFAIK and was never Korean. I have 500 rds of K-53 ammo that I bought from the CMPicon about a year ago. Haven't fired any yet but plan to soon. I'm going to chrono some and see what it is actually doing out of a garand.

The CMP is still selling K-53/K-54 on belts from time to time but I haven't heard of many problems with the ammo.

The only known ammo that I am aware of to stay away from was some lots of PS korean made ammo. It was only these few lots though and the rest was fine.

It's also worth noting that the Korean-loaded "KA" ammunition is corrosive primed.
