Martini-henery in the movies and film-

Found 2 real interesting places for the martini- first was the WW-2 HD movie(documentary) on Netflix about the Solomans Is just before the war and there were native troops marching round the Britishicon flag with Martinis.

The second was "The man who would be king" 1978. with Michael Cain and Sean Connery. Lots of close ups and operational details.

Besides "Zulu" --anybody have a favorite?

"Khartoum" - the scene where the expats are escaping downriver and banging away with M-Hs at the Mahdi's followers on the river bank - who are firing back with Egyptian Rolling Blocks.

Add "Zulu Dawn" to the list. Also If I am not mistaken "The Naked Prey" with Cornel Wilde.

Normally, I would never pick up a movie star autobiography, but someone recommend to me Michael Caine's autobiography titled "What's It All About"... and it was really good.

He talks at length about making the movie "Zulu" (it was his breakthrough film), as well as "The Man Who Would Be King" years later. I think they basically get a chapter each, and there's all sorts of good stuff. He also talks about using a No.4 Lee Enfield and Bren when he served in Korea (in real life, before he was in movies).

And speaking of "Zulu," if you watch the scene carefully where Bromhead is hunting the leopard, you can see he's using a sporting Martini rather than a military model.
    ...

As for other Martini movies, I recall one called "Jock of the Bushveld" where the main character used a sporting Martini in many of the hunting scenes.

Hmm, the IMFdB has: Martini-Henry Rifle Series - imfdb :. guns in movies :. movie guns :. the internet movie firearms database

... though in "Zulu" they apparently couldn't get enough Martini rifles ... about half of the Britishicon soldiers are actually using Long Lee-Enfields with the magazines removed! You can see the striker going forward when they fire, plus of course no lever action.

Can't remember the episode but "Myth Busters" had a show involving a harpoon gun and - it was a modified martini shooting a 4' long harpoon with rope spooling off the bottom.

I'm pretty sure Angus Starling (the religious Scotsman) in The Ghost And The Darkness was carrying a Martini Henry when he was killed by the lion.
