    Naval "Special Type 99" rifle

    Thanks for your replies.

I finally got my Navy type 99. I did some trading for it. It's an early model with a solid wood stock and long handguard. It also has a matching bolt and a clean bore.
With your advice I won't be shooting it. It will be a nice add on in my collection.

    Thanks from NorthWales Fred

With a steel bolt locking into the barrel extension, and the chromed bore, these were obviously meant to be fired. I know that I have no intention of shooting mine, though.

I have one and have not fired it either. Not because I'm afraid too, I just don't have a desire to fire any of my collection. The screws on mine look hand made and might shake out if fired. Mine has a long handguard also. I beleive the one I have is the only one I have ever seen.

Mine has a short handguard, middle band to receiver ring. The screws look as if they were slotted with a hacksaw. In the barrel channel are characters in pencil for "Nakamura". I assume this was the assembler.
