    Type 1 sight flip sight ???

    Here is some pics of a type 1 flip sight that was on a Win. ser. #58046xx. The base is IBM the filp is S'G' . Would this have bean done in the rebuilding prosses ????. And does this loose it's value. & did Win. have a type 3 stock with only a cartouche stamp no other markings. Will post pics later . That for any info.

    That type I sight looks to be a counterfeit. I believe a 5.8 Winchester would have had a type II Hemphil Mfg. Co "H" in a shield rear sight.

    Hi Bill
    I know the sight does not go with the ser. # it's the sight . The base & the flip are 2 diferent contractors that is ??? to me . The sight is G.I. .

    No, the sight that you posted photos of is counterfeit. It is not GI.

    The rear sight is as Bill said. It's not a real WW2 rear sight. A reporduction that has been taken apart and parts messed with. Winchester did indeed use a type 3 stock with just the acceptance crossed cannons stamp on it and it would be correct for your serial number.

    Thanks Bruce for the info on the stock some bird brain sanded most of the cartouche off but can still see some of it. Will post pics soon. The sight leaf the aperture with my caliper is 0.079 some times it's 0.078 will take pics of that also original G.I. the base not sure. The guy that had the carbine in Canadaicon had not shot it for over 10 years I will check to see how long he had it for. I just pick it up 4 days ago. The sight did not come from ebay.

    Unfortunately I have to agree with Bill and Bruce the whole sight is a marked up repro, gunsdora. You took some great photos though.
