I met plenty of guys with full auto stuff before, stuff from WWII also, but they shot thier stuff, on full auto too. They just go to those machine gun meets with lots of other people to do it. The NRA ranges as a rule don't allow full auto around here. I had seen a line officer after a match on an Air Force Base, take his old "grease gun" down to the line by hiself and fire away for a few minutes. That was a welcome sound, especially after a high power match.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Sorry, I didn't even notice that. My bad, I wasn't trying to rub anything in, I goofed up and made an assumtion that you were in U.S. since you had the M1328 A1 Thompson. So i guess the whole collectors permit idea is so you can have it, just as long as you don't alter it, or use it.

No wurries my friend, there was no offense taken! The idea is that you can own historically relevant weapons, but you can not shoot them if they are full auto! My 1928 is still fully functional! My Garand and my M1icon carbine, my 1911A1 etc. are on a sporters shooting license and I'm allowed to shot them at the range. The reason why we have such a provision is most probably the fact that, after the Battle of the Bulge, the whole northern part of our country was littered with small arms and military equipment. Most probably the legislator did not want to penalize the people who still had guns lying around at home and gave them a chance to have them legally registrated.
