Inherited Stevens 620 trench gun

I was looking up info on a Winchester 1917 I bought today and found this site/forum and it is awesome. I inherited a Stevens 620 trench gun from my dad and he got it from a friend that bought it from a prison auction a long time ago where it was a guards gun or something. It needs the stocks replaces because the front grip is cracked and at some point the rear stock was shortened and they are both beat up real bad. Also my dad said if you use anything over a #6 shell the kick forces the breach open on its own. So if anybody know what i need to fix that it would be great. Sorry the pics are so bad. all i got is a cell phone camera

You need to get a better camera for better pics so we can be of more help. Many prison guns used to be military guns and are so marked. The wood is available but if military marked can be expensive. The thing about it opening prematurely means worn parts so those need to be looked at and replaced if you intend to use it. When you fire, if you hold the trigger down and run the pumpo forward it will go off so careful of that. It's not broken, but designed that way. The parts you want to repair are inside. If you aren't familiar with the gun, take it to a gunsmith for work.

thanks for the info. i already knew about the slam fire. where would i get a good set of stocks and replacement internals? It is well worn inside and with years of other people that didnt know what they were doing messing with it. sorry the pic suck. im in the process of doing a frame off restoration on a 66 ford truck and i dropped an impact wrench on my camera and all i have is a cell phone camera so i will try to get better pics when its light out.

There's lots of places in the States to get parts for these. One is Gun Parts Corp in West Hurley NY. About 100 miles north of NY City. You just have to be a bit careful about the quality of the stuff you get from them. Being into car restoration you know exactly what I mean. There must be places closer to or in Florida that stock parts but someone else may chip in with those shortly. You could also get a donor gun and gut it but...well the quality of parts may be down. These guns haven't been made for some time.

thank you for the info. i was doing some research and found a lot of the parts i needed but i can probably buy a donor gun for the same total price as all the individual pieces. There is a huge gun shop close by so i was going to look there for a donor. Also after closer inspection i found what is most likely the problem, which is the firing pin retainer pin is missing or broken and some idiot through the years use something with a smaller diameter to replace it and then soldered it in. So it should be fun fixing that.

One weak link in these is that little plate / nut that's at the rear of the mag , under the bbl , set into the front of the reciever. You can see it in the last pic. It will wear and allow the action arm to flex , causing problems , unlatching the bar from the bolt , etc. Does not take much wear to do this , it'll look good , but be bad. Try to find a NOS in the grease one if you can.

thanks for the info Chris. i will check that out. i completely disassembled and inspected each to look for wear and more bad fixes and i look at that piece and it looks to have little to no wear so but i will definitely look into that.
