    P14 Restocking - Please help

I am in the process of restocking/restoring a sporterised Eddystone P14 with a stock and handguard set from Boyds.

I am hoping to get this great 96 year old rifle back as close as I can to being as issued.

With no original handguards to use as a reference I have been looking at pics on this forum and online.

The Boyds handguards have arrived and the ends are not fitted with the sheet metal reinforcing seen in the online pics of original handguards.

Can someone please advise me of the guage and dimensions of the original reniforcements and confirm that they are fixed to the handguards with copper/brass rivets.

The correct dimensions will enable me to fabricate and fit suitable reinforcements.

    Thank you

    Paul

    Paul,

I have one or two complete sets of ERA Fatbelly stocks around (no DP'd stocks!). They're not that beautiful, but they're original (and with HG). Only thing is that I'm not sure if it would get too expensive with shipping to Australiaicon. Send me a PN if you're interested.

€dit: Sorry folks, they're already sold (as I frequently get inquiries)

    Paul,

If you can order from Numrich or Sarco in the US they both have original handguards with the metal reinforcement. Some are unused NOS. That might be the best option. The reinforcement seems to be made from some fairly tough steel. It does not seem to be typical mild steel that can be bent and formed easily. The steel seems more rigid. The reinforcement is riveted on. I recently finished restocking a M1917 Eddystone with a Boyd military stock and Sarco NOS walnut handguards. The handguards fit the Boyd stock with original hardware perfectly.

If ordering is not an option, or if you're committed to the Boyd handguards, I will photograph and measure the reinforcement and sent to you or post. Let me know.
