    M1911 .45 Ammo WW I

Bought a M1911 some months ago and recently recieved by the dealer who arranged the whole deal another package with mentioning that he forgot to add those, they would belong to the M1911..

Well, there were 44 .45 ACP in the package:
    Attachment 27360

Found 4 different manufacturers among them, those are as follows:
    Attachment 27361Attachment 27362Attachment 27363Attachment 27364
I could identify the 'W' as 'Winchester' and the 'REM UMC' as 'Remington Union Metallic Cardtridge', but what about the other two? Any idea about those? Didn't check every stamp but most are '17 and '18 marked.

And someone any idea how rare those are?

U S cartridge co. and Peters cartridge co. But I don't know how rare they are.

Not rare just not encountered everyday. Surprising how much WW1 ammo stills shows up.

I guess someone left them there and didn't bring them home !! Thanks for showing us. ( I was 75%. Knew 3 but wasn't familiar with the Peters headstamp.)

If you are interested I will repeat a story about a WWI Colt 1911 that came into my shop once.

    OK, the 1911 story...........

Back in the mid '80's an elderly man came into my shop with a 1911 in a holster on a belt with a magazine pouch. He said....."I want you to clean this up real good so I can give it to my grandson. I left it in the holster because I don't remember if it is loaded or not and I can't pull the slide back to check it, so you check it real good first."

I removed a very nice 1918 Colt and removed a 2-tone magazine and cleared the action. (it was not loaded) I then examined the belt rig. A 1918 dated holster on a 1918 belt with a 1918 mag pouch with two 2-tone mags in it that WERE loaded....with 1918 dated Remington ammo!! I asked the gent "Where did you get this pistol?" ..."Well, don't tell anyone, but I stole it."..."You stole it?"..."Yeah, the army made me carry it through the mud of France in 1918, so I figured after the war it should be mine to keep. I told them I lost it, but they made me pay them $20 for it's loss. So I guess it really ain't stolen, I bought it."

I hope his grandson appreciated what he was given and took care of it!!

    That's the story,

That one would have been special to get.

Not the first story like that I've heard. One individual had a 1911A1 he brought back from the second war. He took it out of his kit, unloaded it and put the mag on the shelf. 60 years on the gun is sold and the mag comes out of hiding with it. When they went to the range the ammo the gun and the mags all worked flawlessly. Not quite the same but...

I also have one about a vet bringback 1928 Thompson but that will just have to wait.
    Regards, Jim
