    1911 Made 1918

Recently viewed a blue 1918 45 ACP.. The Sn. was something around 300000. The barrel was interlaced HP, I did not have the opportunity to disassemble the firearm. I believe the barrel marking is found on later 1918 and up But
below the magazine release was capital L. The L was about 3/32 in size. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this marking and what is the significance of this marking. I can not not find this in my limited resources. Any and all replies will be appreciate. Thanks

Not something put on by Colt when the pistol was built. Depending on where around serial number 300000 the pistol would have either JMG, or eagle head over S with number over the magazine release.
