Inglis Hi Power - VALUE Help....

    Hi All,

So I find it odd that I have wanted a Hi-Power for so long and in the span of 2-3 weeks TWO show up locally !....

So here is the skinny...Nice old (80yrold) Germanicon lady calls my friend from the local shop and asks him to come over render inoperable an old pistol
that her husband brought back from the war, I am assuming he was wermacht......he is passed away but I can find out......
Long story short she is selling it on consignment now and as far as I can tell it is NOT import marked and it appears to have 'been there and done that'....

What I find odd is that the holster it's in is a brown leather flap holster that does NOT look like it is
for the Inglis but more of a German Holster....it has been in there soooo long and has enough wear that it has been in there quite sometime....

The pistol has the original JI marked magazine as well...and the barrel is slightly pitted with a nice spiders nest...which is no longer there....

Please see the pics below....I can grab it for what I think is a low value.....and I think this is a no brainer but wanted to check.......any thoughts are appreciated...

Looks like it's got some battle damage. If he was Germanicon and it was a battlefield pick up that would all make sence. Peter Laidlericon will be interested in seeing this one I think. I can't guess price because US and Canadaicon vary so much.

Thanks....I appreciate the response...I guess for $ 400 USD I cant go wrong...the historic value with what 'appears' to be battle damage is interesting enough !

You never know. The holster might be something special too. Maybe we should see it also. And yes, I would probably pay $3-400 US for that. $300 would be more comfortable for me. At least you can shoot it occasionally too.

Buy the rifle and not the story Nick. That's always been my advice. To me, it looks like someone's tried to punch the slide and body together for some reason, perhaps to keep it safe in the house. You can see where the punch has slid down while it's been hit with the hammer including the rounded start mark on the body! Seen and worked on a few zillion and it looks just like every other one that's seen a bit of active service.

Well the 'story' get's a little more clear now that *I* had a chance to speak to the daughter of the lady................ It appears that her father was an MP in WWII, she does not know what unit off the top of her head, but it was the army. She said she will look through and old trunk to see if there is any old items etc. It seems he met the mother over there and he rotated back and she came with him. She does not know how he acquired the pistol other than it came back with him. The mother also has the start of dymensia so not much that she says or said can be relied upon.

Whatever the story is, it does not matter that much I guess, as Peter states "buy the rifle not the story", and that is what I am looking to do...so back to my original question, do you think $ 400.00 USD is out of line for this piece?

    thanks

It's probably the most you would want to pay. After all, it's yours and not like you're buying it for a quick flip...

Glad you didn't take offence at my comments Nick, but Tankie and Sklippy - and probably Son as well, will confirm that this is in better condition than some that have recently come back from '............the Middle East....' recenty after a hard life
