I got the Pecards to recondition my old HSSCo sling, I have a question

I got the Pecards today and I'm ready to apply it to the sling. What is the safest way to remove the dried on verdigris?

How about saddle soap?

Use a tooth brush. Saddle soap or material you plan to use for the leather....

I thought we already talked about this somewhere? At one point Johnny Pepper I think? said not to use a toothbrush because it pushed things further into the sling. I would use a tooth pick or a very small screwdriver to carefully pick the verdigris off. That way you get into all the small places. Then Pecards.

Usally use a tooth pick or one of those white plactic dental pics that are angled on one end and pointed on the other.Can find them in most stores around dental care products.The dental pics work really well for getting the verdegris from around snaps and buckles.You may be able to remove a little of the verdigris on the rough side of the leather by scraping carefully with a dull pocket knife blade or the back edge of a utility knife blade.Often not easy to get the verdigris completely off rough leather.

Any Chemists out there like to tell us - in simple laymans terms of course - a) what verdigres is and b) what it's caused by. Is it harmfull to anything? I know it removes the blueing from telescope tubes

A form of copper sulfate or similar, I think. (It ought to be blue if pure, so...)

Also reasonably sure it's "not good for you"! Don't eat!
