    Need Help Identifying USN Ka-Bar

Picked up the knife in the photo below at a local garage sale yesterday. From what I have gathered from research it is an early USN MK2. The knife is blade marked only with "USN" and "Ka-Bar Olean, NY" on the reverse side. The leather scabbard is also USN marked and is stamped Boyt 1943.

Can anyone tell me the approximate manufacture date of the knife? Does this happen to be the rare, straight line variation?

The only matching knife that I have been able to locate photos of after researching is in the link below.

It looks like you have a type 1 USN KA-BAR. Shows a lot of wear. Does the butt thread off?

I don't know if the scabbard is original to the knife. The scabbard leather is in nicer condition then the handle on the knife.
The scabbards I have seen with USN knives have rivits and are not dated. The dated stapled scabbard you have I have seen on U.S.iconM.C. marked KA-BAR knives. But everything was shared during the war.

The type 1 knife should be as old as your scabbard 1942/43.

If you have or have access to U.S. Military Knives Bayonets & Machetes book 3 by M.H. Cole, or the reprint by Mike Silvey, it is shown in there.
