    Unhappy Multiple P14 issues, help!

Sorry for the title, but it's how I'm feeling about this Remington P14 at the moment!

I got myself a p14 from my local firearms store, only to see I had a lot of work ahead of me.

    - The rifle was sporterised, so I have to get stock parts for it, any help on removing the front sight? (To get the upper band on)

    - I'm having some serious tumbling issues. The only ammo that hasn't tumbled so far seemed to be surplus, I'm pretty sure it was FMJ unlike all the others which were SP (If it helps, I'll upload the box they came in.) but It'll be next-to-impossible to get that again, what do you recommend?

The rifling seems OK however, perhaps I'll just need to slug the bore to find out, but any sort of help with the above issues are welcome!

For the front sight, you need to punch out the pin first and if you don't have any type of sight puller, you can knock the sight off with a hammer and wood block. It helps to soak the sight overnight in penetrating oil.

If your rounds are tumbling there is a good chance there is muzzle damage...but not always. How does the crown look? And about 2-3 inches in? Any dark spots in the bore?

I'll get some photos uploaded soon, kind of a novice at checking these things, but from memory the bore seemed OK.

I would pay particular attention to the crown of the muzzle. It is often the culprit fir tumbling rounds. Another possibility would be a bulge near the muzzle. This happens if the bbl is partially obstructed and then a round is fired. If there is a bulge or a slight bend, there may be a dark spot on one side if the bore. This dark spot is from excessive wear from fired bullets because the bore is not straight. Thats why I asked about the dark spot near the muzzle. Let us know what you fund out. Good luck and if you do find the stock for your rifle, I refinish/refurbish stocks. Particularly military stocks. Let me know if or when you might be interested.

Alright, so this 'dark spot' would be wear from a bent bore? Did you mean the barrel itself? Pics?

@Chuck, it has been stamped on the chamber (And re-stamped by the looks of it) stating it uses the .303 Britishicon cartridge.

Yes a bent or bulged bore/barrel is a posibility, however it could easily be something else too. Pictures would be helpful.

a dark spot on one side can be a bent barrel that was straightened, can be rust, crust or pitting.
