The "It is a fake" replies to threads need to have details of why it is a fake to be believed or to have any value to the forum. Just to say fake isn't enough. And I don't buy that sorry old line that I can't tell you because "I don't want to help the fakers". So if you know your stuff, lets hear it!

other useful advise from very experienced collectors on this
and other forums on identifying reproduction M1 carbine parts.
Use the available tools and study the real items. Respectfully

CJS57, If you want to learn the difference between real and fake then go and compare a real one and the fakes. Take your time to study the differences between them. Good pictures of real and fakes will do. If you cannot see the difference betwen them then you will be one of the ones who will be taken by the humpers. The only way is to study them. This also goes for other parts like barrel bands and safeties. That is how those of us who do know the difference were able to learn and yes we did get taken somewhere along the line but if you do study you won't be taken in the future.

If you want to know what a really bad fake looks like, keep a set of pictures of this sight. It has just about everything wrong. Milling, pin, staking, font, etc.....

As others stated, this sight is fake, counterfeit, humped, not real or whatever you feel the need to call it. Bruce makes a very good point. Hold two in your hand, fake and real and you will see the differences. Jim mentions font, milling, pin and staking. On this sight they are all wrong. There are plenty of good quality photos of both that you should be able to open two windows side by side and study them.

To list specifics is difficult simply because of peoples different terminology for different features. For every person there are that many descriptions of what they see. Just because a sight is beat up and or rusty means nothing as well. A sight that may look the part and is beat up has pitting or surface rust may fool most but if there is no evidence of it ever being installed in a dove tail, there's another way. There are so many ways. Search the site here and save those photos and do some studying.

It sold for quite a lot; I'm not very good at spotting the fake stuff, but in this case you don't have to be.
