New (to me) RC Mauser and some questions......

Here is a description of the Rifle, as soon as I get my digital camera's battery charge I am going to put up some photos. Any help on the questions is appreciated.

Note: on this Mauser, all Eagle Waffenamts are either a stamped Eagle with straight-out wings or a Eagle's wings represented by lines which are straight out.

Bottom on front part of stock, a very small piece of silver-metal, nearly oval shaped, inlaid into the stock, with stamped Waffenamt with straight wings (line-type, not a stamped Eagle, with the number 63 stamped underneath. This is on the piece of wood between the front and rear Barrel bands. [B]What is this and why isn't it just stamped om the wood instead of a piece of metal.[/B

]"X" stamped on underside of stock in the wood grip area behind the trigger guard.

"Bu" lightly stamped on butt of stock, on the wood under the flaf metal piece.
    What does this represent?

Left side of butt stock is numbered "4241" - I think this was probably stamped on by the Importer or some "helpful" person afterward. Trying to "match" the stock to the number on the left side of the receiver.

Serial Number "2211" stamped on bottom of butt stock. (Could not really tell it was there until the butt stock was cleaned up a bit.) When I took the barrel and receiver off the rifle stock, I found this same number, "2211" stamped inside the stock, along with the capitol letter "P" stamped also.

"H" stamped on butt stock bottom behind grip area.

Two Waffenamts on right side of butt stock, pointed wings straight out, with WaA63 underneath each. Note - a small stamp in the shape of a square (or close to a square shape) with the number "3" stamped inside of it is near one of these Waffenamts.
What does the 3 in a square mean?

Waffenamt on right side firing pin removal hole in butt stock with 63 under it.

Waffenamt on flat metal butt piece with 77 under it. Four numbers, "8839", stamped into it, I think the first two numbers are 88, though thry are lightly stamped.

Waffenamt with "655" on one side of the bayonet lug and "74" on the other side.

On outside of magazine/trigger guard assembly, near front of it are stamped "8775" with Waffenamt stamp with "135" under it.

Rear barrel band is stamped with number "5214" on the left side and a "1" on the right side
Front barrel band has "47" on one side and "92" on the other.

On magazine floor plate is stamped "Byf" and a Waffenamt with 135. Note, this floor plate is a "stamped-type" floor plate.

Assembly housing trigger (unsure if that's called the "breech" or not) Short screw that holds the trigger assembly has "35" on it, the longer screw has no number.

Trigger has two stamps, "3" and what looks like a small "h".

    Ejector has a "V" stamp, a "7" stamp, and a Waffenamt with a "26" under it.

Firing pin has number "8391", "b", and "8" stamped on it.

Bolt handle has a "3" stamped on it, also a weird Waffenamt that looks like a "cock-eyed" small "b", with the top of the "b" leaning to the right with a "<" on one side of it and ">" on the other side, with slashes on the top like "\\\\" and "////", like they are suppose to be wings.
What is this strange looking Waffenamt?

Gas shield has an "M" and "89" stamp.

    Safety has a "8302" stamp.

On top of receiver is "byf" and "44" a little way down from it.

A stamp on the bottom of the receiver of an "R" and a "W", with the "R" above the "W", and the legs of the "R" extending down into the "W". along with "J", "M", and "C" in various places.
What does the R and W stand for?

Receiver has a Waffenamt on the right side with "135" underneath it, and a second
Waffenamt with the Nazi symbol below it.

Cocking piece has "7765" stamped on it.

Barrel itself has a shield type stamp with byf" in it, and a "1" underneath it. Barrel also has serial number 44 D 828 with a Waffenamt and 135 under it. There is a "b" stamped on bottom of barrel next to receiver.

Barrel near front site has "Cole Distributing, Scottsville, Kentucky". I guess the is the Importer of the rifle. Also, what is interesting, the opposite side of the barrel has stamped "8MM GERNAM" Yes, it is misspelled in the stamping. I guess the folks in Kentucky were just in a rush to get it out the door!

There is an "O" stamped on the bottom of the barrel. And on the left side of the barrel is stamped "4241", "Mod. 98", and a Waffenamt with the Nazi symbol below it.

On the rear sight, has "5055" on top portion of site, and "5791" on the bottom portion of rear sight, along with a Waffenamt with 135 below it.

The top portion of the rear sight also has "4241" scribed on it. Put on by some unknown person, to try and match the barrel and the added-on "4241" on the butt stock, as mentioned earlier.

There is a "659" on the piece of the rear sight that slides up and down.

There is a Waffenamt on the front site. The sight hood is missing if it originally came with one.

Sounds like a typical RC Mauser. The byf is code for the Mauser factory; the x and the circle 3 sound like Russianicon rework stamps but I could be wrong. It is very typical if not expected for you to bump into all sorts of mash-ups of part and types (early, middle, and late) which don't correspond to the year of manufacture. The scribbled markings on the bolt and such are from the Russians when they finished the rebuilds in order to 'match' the parts. The serial number on the stock is also from the Russians. Typically, the Germans tended to number their stocks hidden in the barrel channel and also sometimes behind the wrist of the stock just past the pistol-grip. As for the markings under the receiver... There is, to my knowledge, very little known about those and most are probably just someone initialing their step in the manufacture of the rifle. The waffenamps are all inspection indicators and the simple 'lined eagles' are typical of later war stamps.

Yes, I think so too Aragorn243.

Can you try again, texas diesel? Remember there is a 'preview post' button at the lower right of the 'advanced' screen and you can test your photos as many times it takes by clicking on preview again.

Not sure with the small pics but the stock looks like a Sauer (code 147 then in 1940 changed to ce) stock. The flat butt plate would be earlier than your rifle. The steel insert on the bottom front of the stock is the cleaning rod nut. All of the 4 digit numbers are serial numbers of other rifles. When the Russians "rebuilt" (or ruined depending on one's perspective) the rifles parts were amassed in piles and no attention was paid to serial numbers upon reassembly.
Having said that, the RC rifles will be collectors in their own way. The reassembly is now part of their history. Many folks try to purchase the correct parts to make them "original" again. To find the actual original parts would prove very tough if not impossible. Locating parts with the correct serial number does not make the rifle original again. It's just another assembly. I know many folks disagree with this perspective and enjoy trying to find the correct parts. It's their rifle and their right. This is only my opinion and we all know what that's worth.

Check the MKLicon under Germany ...

    Here's a typical entry for a K98kicon ...

1935 S/42G K98k 'Reconditioned' Rifle (Mfg by Mauser Werke AG, Oberndorf a/N)

Read the section in that entry written by claven2 about Russianicon Captures and I think it will help you a lot ...

Also, most of your markings may be found in this document ..

Detailed Listing of German WaA Markings and Codes

    Regards,
    Doug
