Browsing facebook today and found an Enfield group, they also have a nice library of images I mostly haven't seen before.

It looks like the map board that the fellow behind young Errol is carrying. The 20 rounders are slightly curved at the rear strap part.

But more interestingly, what is the rifle laying across the ammo boxes (?) on the floor to the left. It looks like the handguards, gas block, front sling loop and barrel/flash eliminator of an L1A1 to me. Anyone know what year the pic was taken. Can anyone identify the type of Jeep in the background. Looks like AATTV era to me

I think the SLR is a box lid that is open and the latch is the lookalike barrel.
You would be surprised Dan how the sighting systems work on the off the rifle grenade launchers. remember they have a short range and it's trajectory is really curved over that short range.
    cheers

Can anyone identify the era of the photo. I'm not sure that the geometry of the box lid is right Trooper - L1A1? It looks like a pommy No87 smoke (or was it HE) grenade of the era. There was also an US rifle launched grenade that looked like it too but ammo and dangerous stuff like grenades ain't my forte. If it was anything like the Energa, he's be in for a bit of a shock when it loosed off!

Any other ideas chaps. Surely the age of the Jeep should give you vehicle fiends a clue

Not having access to the file this pic came from makes it difficult to date. I think I have seen this before, but it doesn't have the AWM logo in the bottom right corner, so it's anyones guess.

i intially thought the 4X4 was a ford willys jeep but from the photo it looks a bit wider or squarer than a willys. then i thought early series 1 or 2 landy but still not right, then i thought did bedford bring out a 4X4 type vehicle.
I reckon it could be malaysa or singapore with the criss cross of borrowed english, Australianicon gear.
I am hearing you Peter on the SLR or L1A1. Did the early englsh L1'a have the triangular fore ends?
    cheers
