I attended National Gun Day today in Louisville, KY and came across an SMLE SKN near the end of the show. Since I purchased a No4 SKN from Brian Dick icon

a few months ago, I could not pass this one up (to be honest, it is the first SMLE SKN I have come across at a show).

Hopefully the weather will cooperate so I can take these two fine rifles to the range.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. There is not much room to get both a front and rear sight on the No1.
Wthout sights you may find your accuracy is somewhat lacking.

You might not want to flash it around too much as certain people in D.C. feel it is a short barrelled rifle. Yes, I know the cutouts at the extractor slot indicate it is not safe to fire but that doesn't matter to the man. Even drilling a hole in the chamber might not be enough to make them happy if the barrel has the same serial number. Their rules, their bat and ball.

I've got lots of DP barrels here Troy. Maybe we should make up some 16" variants like i had to do for the No.4 SKN's I imported several years ago. Just a thought.

I planned on calling you this week, but it looks like you and I are already on the same page. I figured I would have to put a 16" barrel on it before I purchased it. It's a shame, but as Paul said, "Their rules, their bat and ball".
