civil war cartridge box

This my be the wrong forum to ask on but I recently got a 1864 colt rifle musket. it came with a 1864 dated cartridge box and bayonet and scabbard. the box and scabbard has glazing but otherwise are not in to bad of shape. I used peacards on them. What would be the best way to store them? would it be harmful to the leather to hang them on the wall and display them next to the musket? thanks for any help

I'd keep them out of direct sunlight but I don't see open-air display being that much of a deal. Museums do it all the time.

Does the box have it's tins? If not put paper onside to keep it's shape, and don't hang the box by it's sling. Display flat if possible or leaning against something so it's supported.

it came with the tins, i was going to hang it from the butt of the musket maybe I could mount a small shelf under the musket and set it on the shelf? any other ideas how to hang it on the wall with the musket withpout using the strap

You want to hang it in such a way that it puts as little stress as possible on the leather. So you don't bend or crease the box or sling.
