serial number

Fellas,
Can you help me out with a serial number.
The number is on the bolt handle of my M17.
it is E 1010666.
Now I don't think the E stands for anything other than Eddystone but was wondering if the number falls within production serial numbers or not. it does not match the receiver number but not too worried about that.
Or is it an inspection number?

serial number from what ever rifle it came from , common on lend lease rifles, NZ, Brits, ect did this .

yeah but does that number fall within the production figutes for Eddystone?
That would make it the one millionth something rifle made?

In fact, interpolating from the graph shown by Ferris, the number indicates a rifle assembled around September 1918. Adding the E and stamping the number on the bolt handle suggests that the original rifle to which the bolt belonged was taken into British service. I know you say that the number on the present rifle does not match the bolt. Nevertheless, can you read the barrel date (up near the foresight). Does the rifle bear any British proof/acceptance marks?

The barrel date is 10/17
dont really know what acceptance marks you are after but this rifle has been to Canada. Has the acceptance mark and possibly a rack number and one other two digit number on the butt, and the red band of paint with 30006 stencilled on it.

serialed bolts are the norm with Canada lend lease. some will have a notched receiver ring, so that the shooter would know at a glance it was in 30-06..iv seen a few NZ rifles with the same notch.
