    A few observations:
1st pic - these 'riflemen' appear to be older than the average 1943 recruit --- possibly OCS candidates.
2nd pic - the bloke to the immediate left of the Captain instructor giving the tactics lecture appears to have an OCS badge sewn to his right sleeve (seen in previous pix) and these blokes appear older as well. Also, officers rarely give tactics talks to Ptes.
    3rd pic - arranged display.

    Conclusion - OCS P.R. photos.

Second photo shirts have epaulettes (officers) First photo, shirts have no epaulettes (enlisted or still in OCS).

Bill, they have epaulettes in the first photo as well. Look at the bloke, second from the right with the glasses and the butt of his rifle on the ground.

Yep, I do see his now. I don't see them on the others though. My eyes aren't near what they used to be

Neither are mine. [grin] Of the five right-most men in photo #1, and going right-to-left, numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 appear to have "epauletted" shirts. (I cheated: saved the picture to disk and blew it up with a photo-edit application.)

Did anybody else notice that the two identifiable-as-Garand rifles have the actions locked open?

Yes Ben, I see the first two rifles in pic one have the actions locked back. Maybe they shot their last round and now they MUST charge??? Or maybe not...well their cartridge belts seem quite empty anyway!
    Regards, Jim
