    Newly acquired No1MKIII*

Just wanted to take a minute to stop in and say hi. I am recently the new owner of a sporterized 1918 No1MKIII* in pretty decent condition. I've also got an Arisakaicon type 99 complete with mum, but sporterized, and my son has a 43 M91/30 Nagant, so I guess you could say we're just getting started on this addiction I mean hobby.

I was referred here by Troy, who told me that you folks were the most knowledgable in the business. I'll most likely be restoring this one, so I'm sure I'll need all the help I can get. Also, Brian Dickicon, I've got all your information and bookmarked your page, so I will surely be coming to see you about some parts as soon as I can.

Here are a couple pics of the new addition. A question I've been meaning to ask - in the first pic (I hope it's the first pic when I hit go on this post), what do those markings mean?

Well, as you probably know, the markings on the buttsocket tell you that you have a No1 MkIII* made by RSAF Enfield in 1918. The barrel appears to be dated 1918 as well, probably the original barrel. The myriad of marks you are asking about are standard proof marks. What about the serial number? Bolt matching? Are the serial numbers lined out and a new one stamped? Provided the bore is good, looks like a nice restoration prospect. If you can, post some more pics of the rest of the barrel markings, receiver, etc..you never know what turns up on a Lee Enfield. Good luck with it!

I can't recall the SN right now, but I don't remember it being marked out or anything. I will double check later when I get home though. I do know that the numbers all matched though. The bore is good, no problems there, and mechanically, I'd shoot this thing right now and not worry about it. I'll try to get some other pics later tonight or tomorrow and put them up.

    Thanks for the reply.
