Thumbs up 1913 Colt 1911 from the USS Maine (BB-10)

For my first post on this site I thought I'd share some pictures of my 1913 US Navy Colt 1911. According to “U.S. Military Automatic Pistols, 1894 – 1920” by Edward S. Meadows, this is one of the US Navy 1911s assigned to the U.S.iconMaine (BB-10, the second USS Maine)- this serial number is specifically called out in Mr. Meadows' book.

I've had her locked away for a while now- probably the first time she's seen light in years!

What amazes me is that any Colt 1911s of this vintage, especially the US Navy 1911s, were able to survive the use and abuse of life on the open ocean. Almost 100 years old, and still looking good, IMHO!

Very nice Colt. I always loved the early blueing look of the 1911.

Nice Navy. Incorrect barrel, but otherwise looks original.

This is a 42000 Navy with the correct barrel.

Here is the barrel in my MAINE Colt. This is the type of "H" "P" marked barrel that was used from about 25000 to 60000...

And this type from about 60000 to 375000..

The horizontal H P (or P H) was used into the 120,000 range.

Yes, it is the incorrect barrel. I think I have the correct one stored in a box. I'll have to dig around this weekend.
