    AR scope recomendations

I would like to see what others can recomend for a scope for my AR rifle. I will use this rifle for hunting on a oppertunity basis. In other words if a shot come up I want to be able to take it even though it's not the system I would usually use, it is in my hands when the shot is presented. I know the rifle is accurate and have tried it with a large and bulky Tasco 6X24 off my 22-250 with good results. In my opinion this Tasco is way to big and to much scope for the 5.56AR. I want to find a "reasonable" priced scope that would be more in balance with this combo.

Most of my experience with a AR style rifle is combat related in the 68-69 period. It took me a lot of years to get past my hate of this system and I have at least embraced the fact that after 40 years of development it is finanly some what fixed and useful for some hunting.
    Thanks

    My deer hunting AR:

Colt scope. The film canister with the front cut out and the inner tube at the back are to keep the rain off the lenses.

Another shot w/o the front "tube extention":

That or Trijicon ACOGs. But the Colt scopes are far cheaper. (Most are Japaneseicon mfg.)

Short, quick and good for the woods. (No fancy shots for me, just put 'em in the shoulder area.)

My choice is the Nikon M-223 4x with the BDC reticle. Midway USAicon is the only one who offers the BDC. Nice glass. Midway has it on sale often.

Those little AR scopes are 3X, marked Colt, have BDC, and mine was made in Japanicon. It is accurate out to 500 yards with the BDC. Well for sure minute of man or deer. It is just like the one pictured - - nice units and fairly inexpensive.

    Be well,

What state allows you to use the .223? Here in Pa, no semis and anything with a 22 in it's cartridge description is also banned......

    A.F Medic,
I dont know about most other states but here in MT we can use pretty much anything we want to. Yes that means even a .22 rimfire to hunt with but they do recomend that the gun and game match up. In my case I usually have a little to much gun for the game. I have been put into a situation where I used something I wouldnt have used. One example is when a friend and I went hunting in Calif. he was deer hunting and I took my 22-250 to shoot coyotes with I really didnt want to shoot another deer. I already had a good eating buck in the freezer. It turned out that I ended up shooting another deer for me and he got a buck to. I almost shot a pig to.

My poor little AR lives a hard life but it's Burris Tac 30 scope with ballistic plex reticle has given very good service over the last 6 years without ever loosing zero. To answer A.F.Medic's question, South Carolina for one. Here as long as it's CF it's legal, semi, bolt, lever whatever. Several guys I know go after deer and hogs with a 204 Ruger. I've killed at least a couple hundred myself with a .30 carbine, in fact the second largest deer ever killed in the county I reside in was taken with an M2 carbine a relative smuggled home from Korea.

This one is so old it's marked "Made in USAicon" But I don't really believe it.

BTW, until you've put a stoutly constructed 55gr bullet with a muzzle velocity of around 3200fps into the chest cavity of a deer, you won't believe how effective it is. Scary! Nasty. Show stopping....

I can't say as I've seen one with Made in USAicon on it - unique!

And the film canister for a front glass protector I would have never thought of - Thanks for that one - of course film canisters are about as prevalent as Hen's teeth anymore -

I put a Nikon M223 2-8x scope on my SPR. I get good hits out to 500 yards with this combo. I'd suggest either the Burris PEPR or the Nikon scope mount for it.
