    Pre Ban A2 on layaway

It is a my friends gun shop right now.

My question here is, was the A2 sporter ever fitted with the triangular hand guard? Mine does not have it. Thanks

No. If you see one that does, it's because someone swapped them to get the A1 look.

So, does yours have the slickside upper receiver, the forward assist upper, or the forward assist and brass deflector? A2 Sporters came in all three variations.

Dont forget A1 sights with brass deflector! Saw a few of those when the "A2" was introduced. How disappointing when opening the box...

What is a slick side upper receiver? I think I know what a "fence" is and that appears important. Thanks...

    AF,
Check out my thread on this page/ forum. I have a slick side upper receiver that I built on. Of course I milled off the fence for the lower. Normally I don't recommend that... it is there for a reason. Regardless, you will see on the slick side upper, is the A1 type rear site. No brass deflector.... and no forward assist.
The upper was my 2nd slick side upper gunshow find.... the other technically wasn't even finished machining... but that didn't stop me!
I was planning on building a full length rifle with it (triangular handguards etc) but BAR stopped me and forced me to build a carbine! Jeez... tough guy!
Anyway, I think I have some photos for you to gloss over..... on that thread.

Slickside= no forward assist (or brass deflector). AR-15A2 Sporter IIs came in three variants, all with the A1 rear sight: no forward assist, forward assist alone, and forward assist plus deflector. By 1988 Colt finally began to produce a proper M16A2 equivalent, the AR-15A2 Government Model.
