    What ammo?

What ammo is the best for an A2? By name if possible Should I stay away from certain ammo? Like Wolf?

Prices are all over the place. Can't tell who made the ammo from the advertisment. Any good source? CMPicon has smaller amount. I would like 1,000 rds. Thanks!!!

an A2 what? that covers a lot of ground, several things are refered to with an A2 association. Maybe be more specific and we can help.

    What twist rate?

If it's 1 in 12, you're pretty much stuck with 55 gr. 1 in 9 will easily handle 62-69 gr. and 1 in 7 will shoot anything that will fit in the mag.

1 in 7. Know any ammo that burns too dirty for the gas tube?

Crud in the gas tube isn't a real concern. Look at the pressures involved. Crud in the receiver from dirty ammo isn't really an issue either, provided your rifle is lubed properly.

We don't get much Russianicon ammo here so take this with a grain of salt; what I've read online says some Russian ammo can be dirty and underpowered. You'll need to research that more yourself. I do personally know folks in the US who have had extraction issues with polymer or lacquer coated Russian .223. The lack of taper on the .223 case, combined with build-up of polymer/lacquer and/or having a live round sit in a hot chamber can make extraction very difficult. To the point that the extractor is tearing chunks of rim off. Keep a rod handy if you take a class or shoot a lot with that ammo.

I've used some Hornady steel-cased, lacquered ammo for casual range use, and it's been fine.

Just a thought... I have shot thousands of rounds of "Black Hills" .223REM 68g BTHP moly coated. This ammo is good out to 300 yards in an AR with a 1/8 twist. It isn't the best production bullet in the world, as if you order it in 1,000 rounds, as I did, you may notice the little divits still hanging up in some of the hollow points. The stuff still works really great reguardless of that. I have used it on 200 yards standing, & 300 yards rapid fire and 300 yards slow fire prone, no problems at all.
In short, I like this ammo from black hills for the 1/8 twist.

I like 62 gr. M855 for non-precision shooting. I'm partial to the IMI M855. Prvi Partisan is pretty decent too.

You may find some 55gr ammo less accurate out of the 1-7" twist barrel than the 1-12". Mostly cheaper stuff. Non-uniform bullet jacket thickness is a big cause. So, for bulk ammo, M855 is a good start. But good bullets mean better results. I've had poor results with some PMC 55gr. Generally acceptable with OLD M193 Lake City, and other actual military surplus- South African particularly. Try some different types before getting mass quantities.

Best for what? Plinking? Anti-zombie stash? Do you go to a range that doesn't allow steel core/penetrator ammo? If you want basic, 55gr FMJ loads, Georgia Arms sells theirs in 500 and 1000 packs in ammo cans. They go up and down the East Coast to various gun shows, so if you order 1000 and can meet them at a show near you, you can save on shipping.
