Probably a better option if you are serious about shooting it than a relining job. I just depends on how much hurt your wallet can take. But it sounds VERY interesting! Not many folk have the opportunity to really wring out an 1899 at the range.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Well the re-lining is out as is any further attempt at cleaning. Apparently there are 3 very fine longitudinal cracks in the barrel. Almost invisible to the eye.

I was exceptionally lucky last Oct, with the 5 rounds I'd fired not to get a burst barrel.

    Time for a new barrel.

    Maybe so.

The old one would make for an interesting specimen to dissect.

My apologies, as I didn't mean a donor barrel as in a Rem-Lee barrel, but as a friend 'donated' a 1-10" barrel blank to my project.

and no he has no more, but wants to help me shoot it, (soon) as he's in his late 80s.
