Well, I finally had the chance to go out and shoot my "new" (unfortunately sported) Pattern 14. Wow, the rifle may be approaching 100 years but I was impressed. Action works smoothly, and the triger was quite nice. It had a medium long pull but a nice crisp consistent release. No feeding problem, no failure to eject, it worked like a charm... Now if I can just get better with the peep sights. I'm used to regular open sights at closer range, and scopes for anything past 100 yards, so using a peep at 100 and 200 was much more difficult than expected. I could hit the target, but forget about small groups. All and all my 17 years old and I had a lot of fun. The rifle was one of the ones sported by BSA and Parker Hale after the war. One of the "B" models I think. Made by Winchester (according to the few remaining original stampings). Since it's already been drillled for a scope I think I will get some mounts made and put on a small scope so I can try for groups. The quality of the rilfe makes me think that probably can shoot much straighter than I can.

I also have a REM. p14 I shoot mine in compitition and have no trouble holding a two inch groop at 100 Yd.

Attachment 32059The old BSAs can still bring home the venison. Mine's a model E and I take it out occaisionally when I get bored of the .243.

What type of sights do you guys have? Mine has the Parker-Hale 6E and I find it difficult to ajust. The original eye section (disk?) is gone and I used one from a William peep sight but I wonder if the hole is a bit too big.

y friend and I both shot our M1917, an Eddystone and a Winchester last Tuesday, the craftsmanship and resulting shot placement is very impressive for a MBR almost 100 years old.
