I have now twice bought the wrong Parker Hale tunnel foresight for my Nr.8. a 22A & a 22B. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The front sight on my No8 is marked "Parker Hale FS 22A" so I guess your 22A should fit but obviously dosn't what appears to be the problem with it?

The correct tunnel is th FS22b, this has the slot cut in the underside of the dovetail for the locking screw. Make sure you have removed completely the locking screw in the barrel band before fitting in the tunnel! Some tunnels might need a small amount of fitting first!

I have just removed my "22a" front sight and although it has the slot cut in it I would say from the finish that it was done with a file and not machined. So it would seem that the "22b" is the correct sight but with some modification the "22a" will also fit!!

As was about to sell a FS 21A (box, holder and 6 rings) and FS 22A (with extension tube) thought to rummage the net for background information.

Wasn't sure how best to describe these, but luckily found some answers, with a photo about 1/2 way and another 3/4 down this page...

Lee-Enfield Rifle No.8 for the British Forces

also some good bumpf here as well...

    Enfield No.8 foresight tunnel???

The unusual thing about the foresight block on the No.8 is that the tensioning screw passes through the dovetail slot. The only "exactly correct" tunnel sight that I'm aware of is an A. J. Parker Matchmaker with a clearance groove milled into the bottom of it's dovetail.

For what it's worth, a No.8 Matchmaker that came direct from A.J. Parker some years ago. Machined groove but no special markings. It should be a simple thing to cut a groove in most any sight with the right size dovetail-I used a modified Lyman before I got this one.

    Thanks buccaneer,

Have eventually found the right one, where the dovetail mount is not central.
