    .U. Flip on Ebay,

Looked over some nice items being offered by a Ebay seller, who among other things has a NOS Inland barrel complete with Type I barrel band, UI marked swivel, N marked frt sight... etc dated 1-43.

    Sellers items,
    eBay: fireside24315

Looked over his feedback and can see he's sold a lot of carbine parts.
Did happen to see this advertised as a WRA frt sight that sold for $92.66.
Has anyone ever seen a WRA frt sight with this type ridge?

    WRA Front sight,
M1 Carbine WinchesterType 1 Front Sight unmarked | eBay

Here he offers a .U. marked flip sight. The .U. is marked up side down on the tall leaf, same as the few I own. But look closely and you'll see a S stamped over another style S. Also see that small familiar hole on the bottom of the base you'd find on a Iver johnson style flip sight. To the sellers credit he does state to decide before you bid if this is a original part.

    .U. Flip Sight,
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

    Your thoughts?

    Thx,
    Charlie-painter777

It looks as though the "S" was stamped after the dings. Something causes me to take issue with this sight

When I blow the picture up of the Ebay flip, I can clearly see a new smaller S stamped over another different style S.

If that leaf was/is real I'd buy, trash the base and install on a .U. base I have here.

I'm not to sure all the other stuff he has is legit either. That re-stamped "S" speaks volumes.

Charlie, I'm by no means an expert on these type I sights but......

I've bought a couple of things from that seller and they were good. HOWEVER, then I saw a flip sight, but in fairness he has a disclaimer that he couldn't swear it to be USGI. The other items I've seen that were GI he said they were absolutely GI. Based on that, it's not GI to me.

Should that NOS barrel have a proof mark on it, or is that done after it's been installed on a receiver and test fired? - Thanks, Bob

Charlie, that Win sight is exactly like my 5.6 Win

This photo doesn't show it well, but the machining marks are the same.

    Dave,
I printed off a pic of that WRA frt sight in the past auction. When holding a known WRA sight up to it, I can clearly see the shape of the outer ears match.
Still shocked it pulled in $92.

    Thx,
    Charlie

Test fired in a jig. IIRC then P proof stamped. When sent to other makers, you may see 2 different style P stamp marks.

    Charlie-painter777

    Just to be clear,
A barrel having 2 P firing proof stamps is pretty common.
First it would be fired in a jig set up by the barrel maker before assembly. If OK it gets the first stamped P.
The maker who receives the barrel then fires it once again as a completed carbine, very likely to be stamped again with the P.
So 2 P's means it's been proof fired twice. I think the most commonly found 2 P stamped barrels are found on makers using the free barrel program. This is why you can find different Shape size and style stamped P's on a barrel.

    Bob,
I think I'm pretty close here, without digging out the Newsletters.

    HTH,
    Charlie

Charlie, if that were an Lyman Gun Sight Corp. "L" marked Winchester front sight it would be more like twice that
