Hopefully simple L2A2 SUIT question

I just got a set of replacement labels for my L2A2 and would like to know how they were serialed. There's a 4-digit number (5777) scratched into the paint on the bottom of the objective lense tube. Would this be the serial number? Also, was a special tool used to emboss the number onto the label?

5777 will be the original serial number for the sight.

The serial number was stamped onto the label and the date label for the Trilux is the date the tritium lamp was fitted. The stamps are 2.0 mm high.

And was used for reference as to when to change the tritium light source. The usual was 10 years from installation, however. If upon inspection, the light quaility had deteriorated, they would be replaced then as well. (Back loaded from unit to workshops, as. OFFICIALY you were NOT to hold any stocks of replacement Tritium Bulbs. BUT, Armourers being Armourers & having 'Good Housekeeping' Mentalities. SOME of us obtained some spares & replaced them at UNIT level. Even though it was technicaly Forbiden!....)

Make sure you stamp the plate lightly BEFORE you stick it onto the sight body because if you do it on the sight it will move the prism slightly and put the whole thing out of optical adjustment. You might not notice anything optically except that the grat post will be slightly out of focus but there won't be enough adjustment to get it onto the target!
