Removing sight bases on Swede 96 Mauser ?

what is the correct procedure to remove the front and rear sight bases from a Swede mdl 96 barrel?

I have the front sight out of the dovetail and see a set screw. I also have the rear sight leaf off and see the set screw in the rear base too. Perhaps this is also holding in the sight leaf spring?
These set screws are tiny and I assume they were put in before the bases were sweated to the barrel.

Reason for this is that I have a new Swedishicon replacement barrel to replace the original pitted bore M-96 barrel.

One thought is that findind a "new" complete rear sight and a new front sight base maybe the easier way out. I see SARCO has the rear sights complete but not the front sight bases.

Will a Mdl 93 or 95 front sight base fit the muzzle tennon of the Swede 96 rifle?

Try and remove the set screws. If they are in tight and don't want to budge, then solder may be holding them tight. If that's the case, heat the area around the set screw with a propane torch just enough the get the solder to melt and remove the screw. Then you heat the front sight base and when you see the solder seep out, carefully remove the front sight base. I used a pliers with relatively smooth jaws and a twisting motion as you don't want to mar the metal. Removing the rear sight base is essentially the same, except you can use some sort of aluminum or brass drift to force the sight base forward and off the barrel after you get the solder to melt.
