Need opinions on a couple of Type 1 mag pouches

I know that some of you guys are into collecting these. What do you think of these two? I see some similarities between them, but also some differences. Both good - both bad, or one of each? Thanks, Bob

    Bob,

I know of at least three Avery 1943 pouches colors, Khaki, Lt Green, and Green.

Without holding them in my hand, from the pictures both of those look good to me.

They made so many millions of those things, it's not unusual to find them turning up new still.

I own the one with the red borders around it. I thought it was probably OK, but then saw the other one listed in a Riverbank auction. The U.S. markings vary a little bit, but the print on the back looks identical. The stitching varies a bit too, and the fasteners are different. I haven't seen many of these, but I'd never heard of "Star Pull." Mine was supposed to have come from a guy in Montana who had a bunch of them. If there were that many made, there's probably no reason for someone to make repros of the common ones. I've seen repros that are identified as such, and they are pretty obvious. I never paid any attention to what makers marks they use, though. Thanks! - Bob

    Bob,

There were other fasteners then KliKit. Some just have a punch mark like the dark green Avery in your picture.
Just a quick look in the first box I pulled and I have STAR PULL fasteners on 6 out of 20 pouches. All different makers.

Also different, I pulled two with an S in the middle of a triangle.

At one point I had about 15 or so pouches and no TWO were the same. Not even close. There were SO MANY variations.

I know, I had over 450 at one time. Type 1's and type 2's. They take up a lot of space.

Yeah, but if a guy wanted to sell them one at a time, they'd probably be worth $10,000 - $15,000! Jim, if it isn't too much trouble, could you post pictures of both sides of an Avery 1943? - Bob

    Bob,

I wish it was that much. I'm down under 300 now. I did list some in the classified last month. Sold over 100 pouches. Type 1's sell for about $30, and type 2's for about $15 in my area, and I have about the same of each.

    Jim

Here are some photos of Avery's
