I purchased this at auction a few months back, but finally got it home here this weekend. It got held up waiting for the transfer of a F/A Thompson which I purchased on behalf of 12.2 guy.

This was one of the EX1 Cdn experimental rilfes, which were trialled before adopting the FN C1A1 rifle. There were approximately 2000 EX1 and EX2 rifles purchased. After the C1 was made, these were relegated to use as jump rifles with the airborne school, and as drill purpose rifles with army cadet units.

I am temporarily using an Isreali marked magazine until I get my mitts on an EX1 magazine. I also would like to replace the buttstock with a better one, as this one has the upper front portion fabricated and pinned as a repair to an original EX1 butt. The butt has been renumbered to match this rifle, and serves as an indicator of the lengths that the weapons techs had to go to to maintain these rifles which were not supported by the supply system.

Besides the designation of Cdn on the side, it also has the Cdn Military inspection stamp on the bottom.

At the same auction I also picked up the EX1's older brother, a FN49. Here they are side by side.

Both rifles were from the estate of a well known firearms group advocate, and interestingly enough, registration could not be found for either of them. Since they were both C/As, they were sold either for parts or as guns suitable for deactivation. Shame that the Canadianicon system forces these to meet this fate. Both have now been deactivated, which I suppose is better than being smelted or broken up for parts. The FN49 was cannibalized for a few parts I needed to fix up another which I had, and this FN49 can be someone's wall hanger.

Stencollector, I notice the EX1 is already marked as a DP. Was if fully functional when purchased?

I understand why you did what you had to do, but dewatting live guns makes baby Jesus cry...

It had the copper coating on the bolt and carrier. I never did check to see if the firing pin protruded. They were supposed to be cut back on DP rifles. Otherwise the rifle would have been functional.

It now has a blind pin welded through the chamber, the face of the bolt has been ground away, and the bolt is not removeable from the upper receiver.

Around 1800 of the EX1 and EX2s went to the smelter a few years back with the Canadianicon Forces. Some were held for military museums. Baby Jesus likely didn't notice one more. Besides, if there was a God, he wouldn't let Liberals put in useless laws that result in the destruction of historical artifacts.

I had a theoretical conversation with God about the Liberals(& the UN) & their stupid laws. The almighty said in a booming voice like he was talking from mount sinai " If you don't like it, run for office".

    Finnish M39

Hi, I show you my new purchase, it's a Finnishicon Moisin Nagant M39. It's a Sako and was made in 1942:

On the two sides of wood junction there is a wood insert, you can see one in this picture:

The rifle was restored in the 1963 and a new barrel was installed:

    I hope you like it
Next purchase will be a Zastava M76

    regards
    CG16
