m10 bolt jammed in

Just brought this M10 at auction.
Bolt was in properly when I looked at it but some #@$% has jammed it in.

I don't know how he got it in there but;
The bolt head is now vertical instead of horizontal, directly under the rear sight, and will not pull out.
The trigger bolt stop is barely catching on the front finger of the bolt, but can easily be pushed out of the way.
The side bolt stop is in the open position so that's ok.

The bolt head appears to be 90 degrees to what it should be. Where the bolt is positioned right now, the lugs should be horizontal.

It would appear that some IDIOT has tried to assemble the bolt into the receiver with the bolt lugs in the vertical position, and has forced the bolt partways in. It is probably hung up on the trigger mechanism.

You are probably going to have to disassemble the whole rifle and get the barrel and receiver out of the stock. TAKE SEVERAL PICTURES OF THE TRIGGER MECHANISM AND KEEP NOTES ON DISASSEMBLY OF THE TRIGGER MECHANISM SO YOU CAN PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN RIGHT.

What you are probably going to have to do is take the trigger assembly off the rifle, and see where it is hanging up. However, I would try the lubrication and brass rod first. It just might come out after a few good taps. You might even put a few wraps of electrical tape around the brass rod to give it a better fit in the bore.

I just tried to duplicate the condition with a Ross. It is possible to end up with it similar to your rifle, but it would take a lot of force to do it, and I did not want to jam my bolt into the receiver. It is very tight, but possible, so if your bolt is jammed in tight, then someone put some force behind it to make it that way. Either that, or we are getting 600 pound Gorillas at Auctions that know nothing about Ross rifles, but have a lot of strength.

First of all, lubricate the area where it is jammed well when you have it out of the stock. Then, with the trigger mechanism off the rifle, and the cut-off on the left side turned to the center (horizontal) position, it might just be possible to use a 1/4 inch BRASS rod down the barrel to knock the bolt back slightly. DO NOT USE A STEEL ROD AS YOU WILL DAMAGE THE BORE, THE BOLT FACE, OR BOTH. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Does your bolt carrier have a pin in it? If not, it is also possible that someone has put the bolt head into the carrier wrong and the bolt head is 180 degrees from where it should be.

This is a new one to me, and probably it is to SMELLIE too.

Ok Have it out now.

LOTs of lubricant + moderate tapping with a long cleaning rod moved it out.

Have checked the bolt and is locking correctly. So now to a range.
