How to tell if the Forestock is properly installed

How can one tell if the fore-stock of a No4 Mk2 rifle is properly installed (bedded, attached)?

I see that the stock fore tip should have a 4 to 7 pound upward pressure on to the barrel which is easy enough to check. Also that there should be .020" clearance between the barrel and forestock chanel except at the fore tip ande knox form (?) again easy enough to check. BUT how do you check to see if the contact areas around the magazine well and the draws are proper?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Put very simply........, there have been a few articles about correctly fitting the fore-end on this forum. Be advised that the 4 to 7 lbs weight at the muzzle end of the fore-end is for a length of about 2" and not just at the tip. Also, it should sit in the middle of the channel and centre itself in the channel when you lift it left or right. The answer to the last question is simpler to explain. Use engineers blue.

Just a word of warning.......... If you're going to re-fit it, just go a tiny bit at a time and when you're removing the fore-end from the rifle after taking the rest of it apart, release it by trapping it gently at the rear top edges to break the taper between the butt socket and the draws.

    Easy as you go..................
