help importing

Hello,
I am purchasing a johnson M41 semi auto rifle for a fellow in Ontario. I need to find someone in BC who is able to hold the rifle until I can get import licenses for the US squared away and get it imported.

If anyone knows of any reputable gun dealers capable of holding the gun for me please have them shoot me an email at luginbill2@yahoo.com

You might want to try either "bits of pieces" or "Lever Arms". Both are in the GVRD and are easily found on google.

That being said, State dept. might not grant you import. Much like Garands, many US marshal arms are no re-importable to the USA.

Thank you for the information. I am hoping the US will see their way to allow an import. It will be difficult but I think I should be able to get it in on a C&R import.

I have been warned that many recent M41s have been denied import and the only possible reason I could figure out would be their ability to be easily taken down. They meet all other criteria otherwise.

Of course it could just be some guy at the ATF having a bad day.

Right now I am concentrating on getting it across canada.

I think you better check with them before you actually buy it and send money.

As Claven2 points out, I always thought that importing U.S. manufactured military arms back into the U.S. was prohibited. I think it's legislative and not something the ATF have the ability to interpret or override.

I think we'd all be interested in hearing how you make out, so please post the results.

I would agree with Badger on this one. If guns like this could be exported to the US, there would be no more Johnson 41s in this country considering their higher value in the US. Same goes for the Liberators, the M1Ds, the M4 survival rifles, etc....

If you can prove it is was never the property of the US Government, you might have a chance. Under the recent changes allowing imports of former US Military Weapons, if it was part of the Lend-Lease Program or given as aid, you will have to re-imburse the US Government for the full sale price you paid for the rifle, so in fact you will be paying twice for the same rifle. On rare occasions some imports fly under the radar and get approved by mistake and are allowed in.
