'91 TS Carbine

Haven't seen one on the forum yet, so this will have to do until better comes along:




With a M41 rifle that still has it's US$9.95 hang tag.






Rear sight is not only missing parts, but it's loose as well. Supposed to be the same as the standard carbine rear, so it may not be a huge drama.


Small crack in the stock.


Bottom sling mount position filled in.


Stock and receiver don't match.

The bore is also questionable, but it is a good handling carbine. Must have been quite nice back when it was new!

The rotate to lock bayonet is an oddity. Just why it was done that way, I don't know. Blade will likey cost more than the rifle, but that seems normal for Carcanos.

Front sling attach point. Nice simple appearance, but it seems scarily unsupported. Must not have been a problem, though.

Tin building pawn shop that only takes folding cash money in this case. This was about the only interesting firearm in the place at the time. Just a random hit, had never been in there before. Left, started home without the rifle, turned around, found an ATM, got cash (with a hideous "non-member" fee), and went back to buy it.

In details, it's almost horribly ugly, but it's overall "niceness" was too appealing to pass up.

You have a hideously priced bayonet to find now as well. Seems to be a common problem with Carcanos.

I think the rifle looks great with the exception of that plug in the stock. You going to leave it or find a swivel?

In actual fact, I believe that's an Italian plug. According to Hobbs, these carbines can be found with dual sling points front and rear, side only, or bottom only. If I was to replace the rear bottom swivel, then I would need a nosecap as well. Much harder to find, AND I think it spoils the lines.

A handguard would be nice, but they are known to be fragile at the attach points. I'll just make the wild assumption it was last seen in the north African desert.

That is a post WWI, pre WWII refurbishment. I have a 1913 dated M91TS that has been altered in the same way. Bottom rear sling swivel area pluged. side swivels added, and if you look very carefully, you should be able to see where the front bottom swivel hardware was ground off the front nose piece. Mine is more obvious than yours, the rear side swivel is inletted directly over the original stock cartouche.

nice find thank you for pics will make me look twice on the racks ( man i miss Wild Woodies ) old mausers , spagehti straws like those . shoved barrel first into 55 gallon barrels , $7.50 take your pick . i wish i had taken the whole lot. that was a long time ago.
