Help please with a Dr Walter Gerard rifle scope

Hi I am David from Wales in the United Kingdomicon and new to this site so apologise if I have posted my message on the wrong page.

I have a Dr Walter Gerard (Mx4) rifle scope in great condition currently on a K98icon with low turret mounts and am trying to find out any information about the unit markings stamped on it. They are :- 5./J.R.21.138 - I guess that it is the 5th company of the 21st Jager regiment but no nothing else at all on the history and dates when it may have been used so any help would be greatly appreciated or whatever other forums I should post this message.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from anyone

    Dave

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I think this might be a case of the old confusion between J and I as a result of the Germanicon habit of using capital J instead of capital I to prevent confusion with the number 1. In which case, it would be a rifle of the 21st Infantry Regiment, renamed from the 21st Bavarian Infantry Regiment on 1 October 1934 when the Reichswehr was turned into the Wehrmacht.

On 15 Oct. 1942 this was reformed as the 21st Grenadier Regiment, which was annihilated in the fighting on the Eastern front in January 1945, survivors being merged into the 95th Grenadier Regiment.
