Bolthead number

I have a No4 MkII PF33000 range (Irish contract?) which does not close on a .074" gauge (good thing) but when I come to look at the number on the bolthead, there is just a 'I' on the top flat. Does this mean that it is a No1 bolhead?

Check your serial number again, you only have 5 digits after the PF prefix which would make your rifle a 1948 No4 MkI, not a No4 Mk2. If it does have 6 digits, then it is most likely a 1954 No4 Mk2 and falls into the batch of rifles many refer to as the Irish Contract.

Tivaughan is correct about the 'Irish Contract' range, for example, mine is MK2 (F) 12/54 P.F.333083. Maybe you just dropped a '3'.

Thanks Peter for the confirmation. Also, thanks for the information about the S/N. The PF number is 6 digits and most defiantly a MkII rifle.
