Are there any good Carcano books out there?

Any good ones out there? I should add in English I guess as I can't read Italianicon. I've seen a reference to an out of print book by a "Richard Hobbs" that someone says has terrible photographs and limited information and a small paperback by "Skinnerton" that from the photos doesn't live up to the standards of the "For Collectors Only" series.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Gunboard'sForum, in their Italianicon section, has a book titled 'Italy's Battle Rifle' offered for sale. I have the first iteration and can attest to it's excellence. In english with an extensive amount of information and Carcano minutia. Regards, Tom

    There is one outstanding book:

    Il Novantuno
    Mannlicher Carcano
    by Wolfgang Riepe

ISBN3932077-30x or ISBN 978-3932077-30-2 (I don't know why there are two numbers)
    390 pages, hard cover,

    and it is in Germanicon.

+1 for Italy's Battle Rifle, fantastic effort and a follow on of the Japaneseicon series.
Big trouble is it was a 200 edition run, but they are currently taking orders for a 100 edition run in part colour, if you are serious, you had better get in quick, it doesn't take long to get 100 orders, especially after the rave reviews of the original colour run.
Just go to the gunboards forum, Italianicon Rifle section and you will find Arditi pretty quick.

I sent him a PM to get on the list. Will have to wait to see if I get one or not. Looks like a good book.

Unfortunately, I don't read German either. It's something I wish I could as my heritage is primarily German but I never had much aptitude for learning other languages. My daughter's can both read and speak German enough to get by as they offer it in school here and they have both been to Germanyicon on exchange trips. I doubt either would be much interested in translating a gun book for me. I've been to Germany three times myself so I can read and understand enough to not get killed crossing the street and to know they count the thumb whether it is up or not but that's about it.

They don't need to translate it! With your interests, you need to understand enough Germanicon for the purposes of "Mauserology". You don't have to actually write German or speak it, just get to know the technical terminology so that you can get the gist of what is in the books.

Keep track of Arditi's posts, you will get a direction on ordering and costs.
Normally he has another member taking the fixed orders, payment in advance guarantees a book.
